For this story, we had the opportunity to speak with Marty's daughter, brittany, who had a very good. relationship with her father. Here's brittany speaking about who heard it was, as a person bears very hard working. He hears the workforce as though sometimes Louis if each other, you know a lot, but when we did, we were always laughing and joking talking he was so funny like, as he would say, the stupidest thing and he was very like dad jove him in my grandpa convinced me
the limited aids were real and phase out in the war, with the ape man like. Would the right you may be, as we know it today and for the longest time, believe that by drought and now, even though he was just deeper man. You know all you always. I got that you know like our really knew that you loved me, there was never any question. Even whenever him and my mom got divorced? No and my mom had custody of us. It was never like. Oh, I wonder. Let us allow me, are you know, He even though he didn t always have the means to do it. He's always would would try and do things for us Brittany also told us about some struggles, morty faced throughout his life. He struggled where alcohol you don't think about it when you're young, like that, but looking back, I can't be that he did struggle.
Without them for a very long time. It does progressive, as here the older, and I think- and I think the whole family thinks that when he went missing, that the local police department just thought he was kind of like on a binge or something and he would come back and then, when he didn't come back when they finally to like realize there was something then it was You know more than one they haven't done anything about it. We were also able to speak with Marty's daughter, Kansas here kansas speaking about the relationship that she had with her father in some Events that occurred prior to his disappearance, my dad, was living with. Us and we were in a really bad car accident, my self. Ah, my it's been in my at the time three kids, I actually broke three items.
Four lands- I was in a wheelchair and we were hip head on vibrant driver- was the timing. It is that my dad's alcoholism had started getting really mad and then Unfortunately, I started having paying pills, go missing so the point we ended up. Actually you know we did what was best for the family and we, you know, told my dad that he had to find somewhere else to live. You know he needed to go, get sober things like that. and then so he had started going to a he was clean. You sober use, actually leaving a meetings they adopt. even given him a key too, that a house, because it was doing so well and he would go over there. He would, you know, start meanings and get things ready and he was so proud because he was doing so well and finally had started letting him babysit kit, my kids again, then
My sister's birthday is July fourteenth. I had talked that day. We had a little bit He came over and brought the kids some pizza, and do you know him? so I didn't always sought to him every day. Sister did and at the time he was living overt apartments he was living in and, like I said, I thought he was doing really well going to every day so about two its role around and I haven't talked to him, but mrs dury usually- short term every other day, and I try. The column on the hours. The twenty second was the first time I tried to call him and I knew he hadn't been feeling well. So I didn't expect anything when aunt didn't answer the phone I just figured. Maybe he was trying to arrest so the twenty four. Actually got off work early and I said well. I was still trying to get a hold of them in a hat, and so I decided to
my sister and see if she had talked to him. She had talked to him his best friend brian, talk to him with justice. For so many not to talk to him every day is just the ordinary- and so I said well with the medical problem. He has just said? in all right over there I went over there, I talked to his neighbor. He said he seen em in two days. I won over to the apartment manager and got the keys furs apartment and she let me- and I was looking around in a low like what were women. He left. He was coming back because this Cell phone was laid on the counter I'm here, Some cash lay in on the counter like half eaten food on the stove and stuff like it looked like he just left, to the store something in anybody knows. There knows him knows that this doesn't leave money, lay in only counter or his cell phone
because he knew even in case of emergency. They get still call nine one if something happened so at that time. I decided Go ahead, Please make a place report because I was just I had a bad feeling that something was going on all his medicine was stolen. At the house, so in case. I went ahead in whatever to the Stu Portman. We went ahead and decided to foul of please her work the thing started, and that was on the twenty. Fourth was the last day he had been seen or heard from from anybody. Britain, he remembers going to your dad's apartment to look around after kansas, had gone over to check on him when we came here, look at them The only thing that was born was here.
his wife and his keys. The cell phone was there it while it with wherever he was wherever he is, while it car keys, everything else is still at the. How like us at his medicine, was their summit literally looked like he just ran up to the store or something, and he was on. Several medication is on medication, for like blood pressure and diabetes that he needed to take every day the front door was locked, but then to the dead back filing glass door. he never really. You was unlocked and it was slightly open. A little bit to brittany told us what she remembers from the first few days after her father disappeared. I know that they took the report. I believe they went over there that night just the kind of war, and then I think the next
they went over and spoke with some people, maybe, for I had called on thursday I caught friday to try to get some information about it, and they told me that I had away till monday to talk to the detective that were on the cape faded and have access to the cave and this look like bright. I may we know that the last time anyone saw or spoke to marty was on July twenty. Fourth, two thousand, eighteen, but we were curious as to who was the last person to speak with Marty. Could they have any clue? as to what may have happened I know I think around lunchtime his sponsor had talked to him, but There then I think my sister heads open to an earlier that morning and she said he said Ok and everything seems fine, but other in that sense around lunchtime literally its ladys fallen off the face of the earth he's not seen anywhere, they have had. No,
traces at all of his beer, who you know they put it in. nationwide missing persons, search that you know his vehicle's gone. His wallet was gone, but he's had oh traces of bank activity at all, since the day he went missing, there is literally no leads anywhere. I would have thought by somebody somewhere would have seen the vehicle somewhere. and we even went out and started chugging like side, roads or ditches or anything because we live out in the country. So maybe if he had run off somewhere it wouldn't have. Insane, you know, but we must anything, we ve been went down the path would go to like a a and looked at all those places to see if maybe you'd run off the side of the road somewhere there and we just We didn't see anything. So I don't know
in either my sister or his best friend Brian talked to him every single day and I was I finally started back to work, so he tried to give me. You know space to be able to rest and do things, but I still would talk to him once or twice a week, but the fact that she just Completely is not talk to anybody or that he's not. Did you call anybody or anything issues just me worry. I feel like something happened. While it may seem odd that marty leftist phone behind at his apartment most of us, due to our phones these days and don't leave home without them.
Brittany has an idea why he may have decided not to take us phone if you went somewhere on the day of his disappearance. I think the reason that he left it at the hall was because they ain't got shut off the night before, though, that wall that tuesday, he didn't pay the bill, though his phone without that wednesday, which is why nobody could get in contact with him that we say, and while my sister finally ended up whatever to the house, thursday. I think they have the cell phone at the pd now and I had found several others, but we were clean that that he had they are at the house, those then as well- and there wasn't anything really on any of those either so there there wasn't any get out telling information on it on anything, given the fact that their been any leads on the case. We are
kansas. What communication with the police has been like and what the status of the case is currently and the thing like that, please early mark in the cases inactive because they don't have any leads, and I hate to see it. I hate to say this, but I don't feel like day I have taken it as seriously. I wonder if they think, oh, he just went out on some kind of binder or something, but no he was getting better. He was due and good, like my kids. so important to him, and I told him before I told him. I said you either get sobering, get clean or you won't ever see these kids again, I said do what I have to take care of my kids he said that's what made him realised that he needed to take care of himself because he won't to be able to grow up and see these kids and the fact that he is not no told us worry we'll or whatever there
it's not like him? I mean these kids were his whole world, Do you want to lose weight? Kansas also touched on the fact that her father had suffered from many medical issues. Here diabetes, as well as severe anxiety and depression. Brittany. Formed are set at one point, Marty had attempted suicide after he had got
if the divorce from their mother friday after him and my mom divorced they'll, probably get two thousand and one two thousand and two somewhere in there. He had actually tried to commit suicide. He took a bunch of pills and they found out that through that, you like best summed it up in his brain and then after that he guy diagnose. I don't know he was diagnosed id but- You just had anxiety, I'm not sure win, but he did get put on disabilities were like anxiety. He had problems working when begin a marked, proud stuff like that last year or two years ago he was arm darkness he had been in, and out of, we had they couldn't bring it out there add a you know: they're, there was something going on we nuisance. Morty struggled with medical and mental health issues can
I mention that is medication had recently been changed which could have affected him. The doktor his like psychiatry, recently changed the medicine that he was on as far as anxiety and depression, and so the fact that he does not have any of their medicine at all is well really really worries me, my mom died ten years ago from dying, it is so I know how important how crucial it is that you have this medication. I mean it literally, is the difference between life or death, for somebody which shocked me that they didn't even do a silver alarm, because I mean he does have some two issues. I would have thought that that would classify him for You know the silver were so I mean I know I've fill in that if he is still alive, that use nine his right mind right now? We ve checked all the woman
shelters around the sea Anybody had seen em or if they ve seen as vehicle or anything like that, and we just there's been no. Leaves at all at the time the interviewed both kansas in brittany, their fathers nineteen. Ninety four jeep grand cherokee was also missing. It was described as dark green with tat trim with the noise. carolina license plate, F, b, v, six, five, three seven, You spoke about that and the struggle she has been experiencing since her father has gone missing, leaving behind so few clues, so on the way up Timor's wall, which is the next town off from us. There is a big lay cobbling norman it's a huge man made lake which, if he would have somehow Lastly, rode into that to two overpasses that actually connect to the water
they would not find his vehicle. Like that's. One of my worries is: maybe it's under water somewhere and that's. Why not be found, but then even one early any resources tar looking for that day, they said there is no reason for them rethink of any kind. player anything that points towards You know needing to look for anything like that, and I might add I just don't. I don't feel like any things being done at this point, and I am absolutely Thus did every single resource that I have I mean we literally were barely make it a paycheck debate, because we are still trying to the shock from the accident. I mean I've had seven surgeries in twenty three months book up, but because of it I shouldn't be. I should not be alive right now. That's how bad
This car accident was my left arm ever played, nay screws in my right. Rest was completely broken, have a pin, india, my right he'll was complete, the shattered, and so they had to go in and reconstruct it and everything from the middle part of my foot down as our cadaver. and I was in a wheelchair for six months, I've had a real learn, a walk there The last surgery I had about eight weeks ago was them actually having to take the hardware out of my foot because it has shifted sammy literally my dad's not been able to be. Here. That's been word because we need help with the kids. I was out of work, and but may not finally started back to work by after you know two years of mass medical bills and be in our work and not being able to do anything we like us. If we are barely barely again it after morty disappeared, family had to move all of his belongings out of his apartment, because his brain
we do in morty was no room to make the payments. I want to say a month after all this happened. They finally came to my house edna. Whenever everything had happened, we move that the stuff out of my doubt department, because he was paying like a half a month behind and nato it's that we either needed to pay his rent up in full or we had to move his stuff out. So we moved his stuffed into my house. Add the regular police said after they came, they came and looked through all the stuff that I had in my basement for his paperwork. They took several items of you know just paperwork that he had and about and then they finally took care to out of brush investigators, try to locate marty's cheap to see if it could give them some nuke who's to go on. They have said that they fired thing, but there's a way not too far from here, and they said that they do so
They went on both monopoly that they took like them. Are they like dragged the bottle, they are where they they did, that that there have been searches from what I have heard from the police department is that they have searched everywhere, that they could possibly search around here, and they have put out information tat. All the surrounding you know areas by it. I assume that unless there is information being in another county or you know another state whatever they can't just willy nilly go somewhere cause. They don't know where to look. Brittany explain that been a frustration for them to have their father missing for so long and they just for like they haven't gotten anywhere, she told
sent marty's case was recently reassigned to another unit in their hopeful that these investigators will find something new for a while. I would just like to add a couple months ago it got pledged over to the violent crime addition they have told us haven't found any approbation, they don't know anything. I don't is it was. You know me and my sister kind of irritating them saying you know it's been this many months and we still know nothing or if maybe they found out something that they don't want to. You know tell us, but it was just. It was just one day my sister said: oh they're, switching over to violent crimes, division, the new detectives want to come talk with us and honestly, the new detectives on the violent, controversial dave
de boer and then better with us than the regular pt. What they seem like, even though they're still been nothing done, it seems like they care a little bit more than than the pd. Did for this story, we also had the opportunity to speak with the investigator working marty's case, I am an investigator christie, cleary with a fateful police department. I work in the violent crimes unit investigator Cleary told above the work she does and more information about maurice case thank gram of anything that use of the weapon any act of violence. Hamath, anything that leads extra attention. If you we'll robberies, specific assaults can be part of that in July, the twenty six two thousand and eighteen
we had a report from kansas and winnowed. The daughter marty's daughter, who actually came into the police department to report her father missing normal protocol is, of course, if we're going to check locations known locations of cell phones. You know this is kinda primary officer weiss m. Whoever takes that initial report because, of course a patrol officer is going to be assigned. before it gets to us as an investigator, so they're going to do. They were poor, obtain information from the reporting party again any additional information. They could help us vehicle information. They may check locations that they possibly could be dna. And boyfriend girlfriend work. Those tat thing so they're gonna an initial. Is it something to wear We feel like there needs to be a search party out. That may be something that's determined at that point.
They're going to check the latin in locations for them, they apartment, they ve got things. We use investigator, clearly about what has been done in regards to the search for Marty and the kurds status of the case. There is no criminal aspect to this at this point There's nothing that leads us to believe. There's the a maybe Kristof anyone causing harm to marty. At this point we don't have anything that leads to them, Whenever I obtain the I'm the actual case, we put his vehicle into a national database into our ncrc system and that puts that out to all agencies within the range of that system, and that means that goes out to you know from here to texas. You know if you will so it it goes down to the system. So if that vehicle was pulled over or if that vehicle is located, that will then send us a hit message that that vehicle's been located or mister tiegs been
it and they'll get that information to me as the primary investigator. Therefore, you know we can do follow ups and go out and get the vehicle whatever the case may be. Also a with that we've um added him to a missing person? Database of will now had did him in that when I was assigned the k, so that felt there were other agencies utilise that, as will so heathen therewith with a vehicle. I'll, say we run him through plate readers with the in areas that we could hit, such as charlotte hath plate readers. Some of the big inner cities, you know atlanta or virginia those places actually have plate readers. We don't have them here, but what that means is you know they could you know it's automatically taking pictures of plate going through, you know the travel system were heavy, so he was in
They are only on as well in vienna. We didn't have any hits on that either his cell phone was home, his keys were not there. There is a little confusion about the wallet they do. You think the wallet was Are there were some cash and change lying on the bar, but as the family state It was very odd for him to leave. You know your cash, or what have you on the bar as well as the thing that was very odd for him, though I did reach out to security to see. If you know Nothing was being reversed. Aid or if anything, had been changed regarding his benefits, they did check with them and advise them, of course, to have his information flag, as well as the banking system, that he used arena. We monitored that pulled all these resources and were record's. I am flag, those account them.
he told us that when her father first disappeared, she wondered if he had just checked out for a bit because he needed a break from the stressors in his life at biased. Honestly, it was out the robot possible he had been in eighty adjust actually gotten in one year in february gateways everywhere. Somewhere around there, so he was. Big into A- and he was following the program and stuff like that, but he had had a really. He had had a struggle with it. Though you know a little bit on my mind. I thought maybe that's what it maybe it up when it was. Maybe you just wanted a bright light. You know now that the year I dont think that the case We asked kansas if she thought it was possible that her father had checked into rehab facility or so thing along those lines that could cause him to be radio silence before
he's known well enough to be able to go check himself inter be voluntarily commended to get some help. So at first we thought maybe what he did. Maybe he just knew he was at that point where he needed a little bit of extra help and we still have no clues, no regular, of anything no doctors. You know nothin have been able to lead us to any answer. So I know there's like thirty day treatment programmes, but it's been longer than thirty days as soon as you able to get access to a phone he will cause. I was then this is what I've done. You know my medical numbers here, all the information that is going on that way. You know where a man you can you know, take care of paperwork and anything if I need to. I can't even take care of anything at this point, but as we don't have anything saying you know. Maybe yeah he's passed all we don't have a desert difficult. We don't have anything. So all his stuff is just hung in limbo. At this point, Brittany
thus about another theory. She has considered. We found out afterwards that he would borrow money. He had always been cut with money. But we found out that he would borrow money from different people. To get through the month until he got his neck check in you know I don't know. Maybe he borrowed money from the wrong person, somebody you know, didn't know very well, and he couldn t I'm back in and something like that happen that, were they all be surrounding areas in everything like that. So if he had decided to you know, I gotta get her from the bat and got it right. I feel like they would have already found it
for a long time to get caught it. I still feel like this, but I think somebody did something with him and then he did something with the jeep The show was sponsored by better help. However, there was a brief sure of a woman that morty new or perhaps was eating at the time of his disappearance woman just so happen to live in the same apartment complex as Marty. We asked two gator cleary about her. It was pretty much just another, contact that he had. She was,
interviewed just as everybody else in the apartment complex that either. Contact with him or was known france of him. She was just interviewed, adjusted everyone else. She she does still live at the apartment complex in I don't know about her in a day we retain. I think she does work, but I think the family has reached. to her a little bit, but I get that it remains just like ever buy up. We try to interview while investigators don't believe that this moment, showcases any red flags or connection two marty's disappearance, britain he does not feel the same way he had been being a girl, or they hear him tell the story relating dating. To hear her tell the story they were just friend to me. She is a purse of injury.
she will not go talk to the cock. She lives in the same apartment, complex that he lived in. I I have focused her a couple five. I actually went up to her work the day that he was reported missing, because I didn't, I didn't know anything about her other than just hear him say that, like they put out a couple of hard that he told me that he really liked her and he had bought her flower for her birthday in a few weeks before so I thought they were coming in and like I said, she's that they were just for it and by its just kind of weird, like the circumstances, the round it she's got family. Her accept father is always good
We remember like a looted. It or a captain anna state, feel pity. So I went to talk to someone. I believe it was that friday witnessing because I wasn't gonna, except that my father I think, at that. I had to wait until one day to figure out any information that that they couldn't help me anything. So she actually hold me to go up to the police department and ask for he was a sergeant or a lieutenant something to that effect. Someone higher up than just the regular police officers and talk to them and ask them what we're going on vacation so ugly out there it had the actually want to eat. You call on her head her I'd with three way and let her here what the police said. While I was up the police department that night
At this point I thought you know: oh okay, like it's just you know of bread whatever, but something about her. That night laid me very suspicious. So I'm talking to the present to tag lieutenant here again. I start telling him hey by doubtlessly girl ordered whatever, and I gotta have a bad feeling about her I'd like somebody to go, make sure they talk to her and it turns out
While I'm talking to him, we realise that the person that I'm talking about is his accept dollar, though he told me that is accepted our it that, even though this is happening, he won't personally go talk to her, but he'll make sure someone goes and talked to her. He doesn't want to cross boundary. Thus I o k, you know just make sure someone does the talk to her, because I do have a back billing about her and then said that she would make sure that you know someone spoke to her thumb no sooner than I leave the police department that very ninety eight she's colony talking about when you just pop them off the ballot. That was what made me very, very weary of states or pd. Whether there is anything going on or not. This sounds bad, but I don't put my data from important person that the police department would
what I like murder him or like hope, cover it out there anything like bar he's. Just you know: you're you're, everyday person. To my knowledge, he wasn't in any kind of activities that would the bird and call the police department, or someone to you now want to cover it up by those events. Just made it very, very weird. Did you do that you tell me you're a higher up on the police department. You tell me that you wait for someone to talk to her about this you're, not gonna talk to her and those who then I'll leave.
