2019-05-27

On May 31, 1995, 35-year-old Danny Lee Kelley disappeared from Gold Hill, Oregon. He had been staying with some friends when they called his family for help stating that he was acting strange, they thought he may need to go to the hospital. Several family members responded to the scene and witnessed Danny’s strange behavior, talking to people who weren’t there and acting paranoid. They attempted to get him in the car when he just took off running toward the Rogue River. His sister and her boyfriend chased after Danny but he was never seen or heard from again. His family has many theories on what happened to Danny from he simply drowned in the river to him staging this to disappear to Mexico. Nearly 24 years have passed since Danny disappeared and his oldest son, Shane, has renewed the efforts to find answers.

a bit more about his life growing up and how he learned that his father was missing. mom and dad they got divorced when I was five so that kinda spent the school years with my mom and the summertime with my dad, but that's kind of how I Iraq and then later on. Ah the disappearance par, sometime around january. Ninety five. He was living a wash and, and I went up there that visit him. I haven't tax reform. I spent my money on a vacation, I have visited maine, and then it was just. I stayed up there for a month and it's just a couple of months later my mom and the tops and my grandma, my dad's mom, She came and told me that originally they told me that he was dead. Then I got more more information never never
a fair, like all family splendor. All these different theory is, like I said so. Mom came to a how I was. I was back before the cell phone dave so my mom is able to track me down. I am she set her dad dad and I was kind of doubt or took off from the house. So I made my mom away from the house. I dunno it was all a blur after that I just went and partied for like a week. When got over my mom and then I kind of about the truth. Now that he ran off from the family and hasn't been heard from since and that there isn't a body. So I was already kinda trying to process that, and I was like. Oh wait, a second. So if there's no body that means
through my grandma via which is my dad. She lived at their near while this happened. She was the one I was dealing with the police, all the information I got back when this happened was filtered through my grandma liner My mom yeah than there is despite the rumours like all they thought. Maybe he just took off and wanted to disappear, sheen's About what he knows about the day, his dad vanished, but there but the way I just talked to my grandma recitals. So she said it was grandma my terror, which is my sister and my carers boyfriend. At that time. They approached my dad and he flipped out, and they said he ran through some take part of the brush. And then that's the last, I seen them and then later on my terrace at all. She might have heard a splash, but the the rogue river that runs right there. It's a pretty turbulent river.
Now, if he would hear splashing my honest labour, looking back sheen, fond memories of his father and realises how different things were back. Then he was very- lobbying of the kind of guy that Everywhere he went, he made friends in a play guitar users, gender family and friends in looking back harry, he did drinking problem, but that was this kind of a family culture. Everyone does all the grown. Ups in the family, back, then I was allowed to drink beer when I was a kid I read on, and it was just a different time back then, like the eighties and nineties.
We spoke to do in these mom viner and she told us a bit more about danny growing up. Oh, he was very busy. He was taken things apart and put them back together at the age of two and wanted the cook and wanted to do everything. He was real aim, as he I mean I could send him to the store and he couldn't see over, but he'd kill a loaf of bread and set it up on the counter and- and she knew well, baroness, here too, I mean the hate this wanted to do it. It doesn't matter if I was gonna go here. and to do it by himself. He was pretty much of a person that was independent. Well, my eldest daughter. She passed away when she was thirteen.
And then in her were very close and that got him up said and then he ended up going with his dad. I wasn't gonna, let him go, but everybody told me I should letting go he needed to tackle the situation he D, and he had this lofty sister in it was hard for me, Let him go a year and a half, I guess, and he was wanting to come back, but he didn't, he was afraid to say some tools, so my sister in law came and told me danny once the come home, but he doesn't on ask if he can come home, and so I did went to him and said how bout you to come back to me. They with me in kara, here little sister Anne who he at the time she was born climbed over there, the front seat to get in the way
He said that was his baby. You know, I mean he was just a really loving, loving child and he did love his sisters. He kind of turned all of his things to cara when Ronda died, his older sister, he was pretty much have like I'll take care of everything. You know he was just always the kid. If something happens to my mom I'll, take care of her care said now I'll. Do it no. You well I'll, take care of her if she needs something he was an old soul. Nanny was the favourite, but they were all favorites in their own way. If you know, but he was, he was really. He was just a kid. There was next to his mom all the time. He was a smile kid and he had a lot of problems with being bullied, but then he suddenly grew up to be six foot tall. He was so talented.
he started playing. I went and brought body mud saxophone. He started playing and then the eighth grade. Graduation, I mean it I brought it home, he never practising, never did anything, and went to aid the gregg graduation and they had danny come up in front of the ban cause he was in banned but never said anything about it and they said he was gonna. Do a solo and he played summer time- and let me tell you, I will start crying right man. I was so good that we all are everybody's mouth dropped because he never I mean nobody knew he could play like that. It was just natural. He was pretty special. She isn't danny's only child after splitting up with means mom danny went on to have more children through other relationships. We are unaware,
with my mom I was then after their the boys. He he got what a lady named marcy and had two kids her. So I have a half brother and sister on her that actually live right up by working went missing from And they had a falling out when we got married another way. nada and still have a half sister from her two that lives right down here. I dunno about an hour away from me We are told us about one of the last time she had seen her son. That was one of the last things that happened came down cause my husband at the time and I were gonna, go to Lhasa, long end and lived there, and so he came down from more cancun see us before we left. He says. Oh, my goodness, I buys wanted to go there now you're gonna get there before I do so. He said,
but I'm going over to domination, I can't remember her husband's name right now or I'm going over there. There either gonna pay me the money for building that motorcycle form are and taken. The motorcycle, and I said please way I had only other grandkids there that weekend and and mean I've got a lot of ground recent wait till I get them fared and then they can stay here. I'll go with you know it's ok, I just need to go over there. Don't worry, mama I'll, be back because I've got a job on Monday night, so I've got to go back to washington and he was real excited about the job after He left that day, levinus started to become concerned. I called and called wanting to talk to him. He talked to me two or three times that day. So I knew I was kay. He called you. Let me know how I was and that everything was fine.
said they're, not home, but I'm just right around the corner and I'm having a sandwich in any way I started calling that house to say to talk to danny and she would always give me this darnell done if she would give me excuse, oh he's out there with her husband when in the garage and yadda yadda or they went to town- and you know that was on the weekend are probably on sunday with the main part, when I just kept calling her and on Monday I called her and she said well they're, not here by Wednesday I mean, IRAN. I've got to go over there and see what's happening, but his kids were out from tennessee and I was the hostess the cook and bought a war should achieve what oh sure they're so I had to stay there and not wanting to, and I always kept myself were not different jump in
I'm going over there, because I want a known if anything was happening. I wouldn't know if I was there in person, then the vienna gotta call about danny on one day. The unease call me she says you better come over here and get barely he's accident weird. when I I went over and he was drinking ice water and when I was talking to danny before he walked over and was standing over by the car that he had driven. That's when he said he was just gonna go over there for a minute. When I started talking to him, I got there he's drinking ice water and he said I'm fine, and course my husband
said your mother's been worried over you. He said I know father, I know father and that's the only time he ever called ron any thing but wrong. He always call them You know he didn't call him dad because he was pretty much lived with Dennis pal most of his life. So then he says, but you're going to be really proud of me, because and so will everybody else be proud of me and ah, because I'm going with my supervisors going to pick me up at the airport, I'm going do something and you're gonna be proud of it, and I said well, why don't you first come home with me and Iraq and
that will bring you back here to the airport tomorrow, you or I'll bring you back in time to to catch your plane, so he said okay, but he said I'm going to go over here for a minute and he was even he said: there's there's some police over there and I'm gonna see what they're standing here for and so he went over and I don't know if he was talking out loud to them or anything. I didn't see that, but about that time my daughter and her boyfriend pulled up, and so TIM went right over there and that's when he said that to danny, of course there and he just took off running and of course he denies anything he doesn't really admit to. But I hurt him danny just straighten up. You know, there's nothing wrong with you. There was something wrong with him: the viner, her daughter, kara and boyfriend TIM try to talk some sense into danny. They wanted
get him into the car. He was running the opposite direction, but he was running from me actually who he was running from when my daughter same with her boyfriend. Tim went over and talked to him. He said danny. Why don't you straightened up? There's nothing wrong with you and that's when danny just took off running towards the river, and so I tried to run after having my daughter says: it's too dark. It was about eight thirty. at night, and then they came back and they said he's not down there, but she said we did hear a big splash like the rock went in. Like you know, a a big rock was thrown in the river
According to the vienna after danny went missing the woman he was living with him. Washington made the trip to Oregon to aid in the search the girl what he was living with and working time. You wasn't a girlfriend, but they were really good buddies. It was more like a platonic thing. She wanted to be his girlfriend, but she came down cause. He brought her car down, so she came down in her and I made a poster went all over gold hill, putting posters up and asking everybody about him and neighbors, and we just was going everywhere. I couldn't get help from the papers or the tv shows or anything to put danny's picture on because the deputies they said. Oh, no, you don't it's because they when you go in and ask them, they call the the sheriff's department and the sheriff's departments.
Now he was running from your mother. I said no, he wasn't. He was running the opposite direction. Levinus spoke to the people lived in the area around where danny disappeared and one of the neighbours. were that she had witnessed him acting strangely before he went missing. I found out about the lady right next door to them. Danny had come in and knock on the door, and he thought that was his sisters. house, and it was the little lady and she got scared. She called the police and says he wants to see his sister. He he knew this was her house and then came the sioux sister, but he didn't go in. He was at the door, she called the police and the police came, and they said that he was setting in the police car. Did he sat there and set there while they were talking to the people?
and they let him go after danny, disappeared rumours began to spread about what may happen to him there, like the rumour, was involved the drugs in that area and somebody maybe got rid of him. Now got rid of my bad in the reform treaty, in the area that I mean so there was never and I always remember my grandma tell me that the sooner sea till all the shares department at their there, my dad was possibly high the day she seen em and he ran off. They never really typically seriously after that. I was never really any media coverage, anything of that sort. In the early is following danny's disappearance, his mother. gone around talking to everyone she could to see. If anyone had information, she came
It was a man who thought he may have seen danny. She talked to a guy that had like a taco truck or some kind of food truck at a park like a couple of weeks. after he went missing because my grandma was pretty dedicated there for the first couple months of going around. So she talked to a taco truck and he said that he seen that a guy came to his truck. While said it was his birthday and that meant mass, my dad's description of the day my dad went missing was by may thirty. Ninety five searchers scoured the area for danny it states that they went are up and down the river bank as they could without actually entering the water on june. Fifth, they searched even further downstream when speaking before, Viner again, she told them that danny appeared very ill and that his skin and eyes looked yellow. They found a pair of men's reebok, sneakers does the brand that danny was known to own the shoes were size, ten and a half the police savannah about the shoes, and she said that danny war and eight and a half about a week after danny disappeared, the police received a tip
on the local shop clerk. Who was nearly certain that she had seen him on the afternoon of june. Fifth, a man can men and purchased a can of beer and a pack of cigarettes. She described as very dirty and spaced out. She gave them a rough physical description, I did closely match day any. She said He was ninety five percent, certain that it was him as the in the past with no sign of danny. His case became an active for many years. It was until two thousand and eight that additional interviews were conducted, the vienna was contacted too, wire about getting a dna sample on file leviathan. Had mentioned earlier, that her daughter had been there to win danny ran off danny or kara spoke to investigators in two thousand eight. She remained that danny had come to visit back in eighteen, ninety five and she was under the impression that he wasn't due to stay more than a week, but she thought it was.
that danny, had a car packed full of clothes for such a short stay character officer that danny seemed different. His skin of the yellow, any appeared bloated She also noted changes to his personality. He seemed secretive and like something was constantly bothering him karras the danny no longer had a desire to smoke marijuana and his tolerance for alcohol was much lower than what it had been in the past. She said that, used to be a half case of beer per day, minimum type of guy, and that now He seemed intoxicated after only a few beers care. Told the investigator that she accompanied her mother step father and her boy friend to pick up danny after his friend had come. Asking them to come, get him karras The danny was acting crazy and that she gave my hug and notice that he had blood dropping down from his scalp and scratch is all over his arms. He was talking to words and people who weren't there
Kara says that she remembers, he wasn't wearing any shoes. Just enough and hawaiian shirt and khaki shorts kara, remembered that her boyfriend said to danny to get the f in the car and danny. Whose hands up in the air and city was sick of every one. Trying to tell him what to do, that's when he ran in the direction of the river kara. we frontier took off after him, but they couldn't find him anywhere. She said as they made their way back to the car they heard, which she thought could have been allowed, splash or possibly a gunshot. They went back to look again. But didn't see any trace of danny. She bird one last little detail that was kind of odd during one of the searches someone found in avocado and bacon sandwich near a bridge, and she believed was danny's because that was his favorite kind of sand, which they also danny since two thousand eight. She was so living on the property that danny had disappeared from troy.
was also there that night was deceased by this time, but she shared, which she could remember. She said the danny. lived with them for a short period of time. Before he moved to washington. He had come to the area, and she said that he was a totally different person than the danny who had lived with them previously. She too did that his skin appeared to be yellow personality had changed and he seemed paranoid. She said the night before for he had been running around the house and property in a crazed manner, certain sure I had a gun and wanted to kill, him then stay is when they decided to call danny's family and ask them to take him to the hospital danny said that she didn't actually see danny run off she had been in by the house at the time and only knew what troy had told her, which was that They got into an altercation with his family and ran towards the bushes, kara and urban Fr in TIM ran after him, but later came back when they couldn't locate him ass. She
has gotten older, he's become more interested in finding out what happened to his father right away. I've been in contact with the department to try to find out more information provided that dollar twenty four years from the trying to repress everything in life. and basically call me the original detective that my dad's case was assigned, who is retired, so nobody's had his case for the past four or five years from now they're in the process of assigning someone to the case. But all he would tell me is it's an open investigation and their eyes. It is needed, as my dad walked out. One. I never return when trying to put the pieces of the puzzle back together now in two thousand nineteen sheen. His thought back to the things is dad was involved with back then, I know you do: ok, sometimes when they call me now, but it was claimed back there
where everyone data they like to involved with the enemy. He always came back to reality. You they always work. you know so well I mean like growin up like an early eighties, all the adults everywhere I went like smoke pot, drink beer. That was just now so to me back then I see a problem with it, but now looking back yet, I think all my family are some sort of Alexander, whatever so since change- grandmother is getting older, he's been speaking to her about danny's disappearance and taking notes What she knows about the day of his disappearance. She recently told him something that he had never heard before, so he left her how he went over there to gold hill Oregon, where he was trying to get a motorcycle bear that he built a couple of years previously and supposedly they,
on there, and he told her that he wasn't coming back without either the motorcycles must allow a sudden man. I have heard her ever tell me before they're. Just she told me about a month ago. She said she had talked to him after he laughed He seemed like delusional all seriously in that. Maybe someone poise and now there is a couple where he would go to that were is obvious. and troy and danis. That was right, that's right where he ran off from that's like the actual site of where he went missing from the gold hill my grandma, would say all the all along that, like you know, she's seen him my dad, drunk and high before, but she never heard him that's the ceiling in the recent mouse involve like somebody poison, remember something. I dunno there's like all these little conspiracy theories from different family members and how to make sense of everything. Danny had been going divorce from his wife norka. There has been. Some
speculation that maybe he was depressed over the break up and may have harmed himself, but shane doesn't see it. That way. You know: I've seen them in january of ninety five and he this happened in may ninety five and I just spent a month with them. I mean it wasn't like he was totally devastated in my opinion over the horse. Oh, I think that's kind of waiting how my grandma reported that originally they had already been put up for a while. I wasn't like a fresh divorce and then he took off. They had already been separated in. I don't know if there are technically legally divorce debate already bits like a year are more sheen mention that his family has various theories as to what happened to danny and they have even arguments over it. Danny small move, mexico, and that became a source of one of the theories wherewith where that are all bus at it. Very well
women, like ninety days after my down what nothing my grandma, proud and stop and move to mexico for eight years or something then there's the whole exercise. My family that thinks that my grandma was hiding my dad down in mexico for some reason and my step mom, but my ex step mom. I guess nardo, because you know my dad always followed. My grandma alone. She moved to mexico ninety days after this all happen within her eyes, isn't a normal if your child missing and so that my grandma moved back, go to hide my dad, she had a private eye. One point that out no after that abortion like a single mom and ran out of body, was slowly that guy was onto of keeping a man from other family members went down there on a cruise. My grandma within bosnia want them I was gonna part there for a day or two you what I'm the creatures Deanna my grandma was supposed to meet
We won there and she liked always waiting there. Anyone for a while, after they may have some excuse with further fuels. Others like a split in the family. No wonder that my grandma's involved with everything and help facilitate him nothing and then there's my grandma who says Two things either died or hit his head and has amnesia. After the event moved away to mexico. She says she your phone line, with the hope that one day danny would call are even less my own number connected and cause. We ended up derriman boss, it long for six years, and I left my phone connected the whole time and have them ring my friend that was taking care of our house at a real tool at I had had the phone rings to her house so because I think I said, won't baby.
if he fell hit his head. Maybe he doesn't remember anything, but I knew he would always remember my phone number. Maybe he'll call me in peace. Ok, if he's not dead, they never found these bombs. I found them. item bound in the river and if the ocean were well graver, caused them to the pacific ocean, I wanted to know more about this theory that danny went to mexico on the surface it seems a bit far fetched and possibly more like family war, she mentioned. That is stepmom. Nora believe this was a straw possibility, so we got in touch with her she's about how she met danny and what their relationship was like. my family owned the salon and that's how we met. He had come in to get a haircut, the one who cut his hair- and he just had you know a very infectious person
Reality and joking and that's kind of how we were as well, though he just kept coming back in and then we eventually started dating from there. Our relationship was good. It was actually good, probably the first couple of years ian, not that it. It was bad. At any point other than that his family they drank allied, so that part of the any started coming out were you know, you I say we go out to e that kind of stuff, and he would I drink a lot and unfortunately, with his drinking he was not a very friendly person. He was never abusive, he was just an angry drunk and so that prevented problems led us towards the end. and then of course I you know, I had got pregnant, which we had talked about that and he tried to cut
commerce drinking in one night and it just kind of started back up again, which than by thus separating and now. We were separated for a couple of years. Before I filed for divorce drew edge, the relationship wasn't bad. There are certain things I just couldn't. I just couldn't live work anymore style, I guess he was in a rehab. I did not know that fire tuscany together, but higher trust getting together. He was in rehab before drugstore propane. he also later into the relationship had gone at war again, and he came back. He was went up there to desert, has mom and that came back and was back addicted again to using, which that also presented a huge problem between us, and so he often on like he would try to stop it than he would get back into it. There was one point
where he was pretty. I don't know what the word is, but he from the using about here it definitely he would see things that weren't there here thing. You know that there are like he was thin little spots on a wall that they were speakers that the c I a then had planted in our house. It do you know them. He would hear voices go outside and say that the cia was hiding up in the trees and this kind of stuff, and I think that all that was basically because when he started using again, he was, of course not sleeping her days on end, for I'm pretty sure that the combination of that sleep and no sleep and no eating. We definitely getting the best of his mind so yeah. That was another reason to that which may be in Prague man. I just couldn't. Do
and then he, ah, he got to a point where he lived. Actually he would throw things and and just become very belligerent and whatnot, and so I did call the police and he was arrested and because he had warrants and stuff that he had not taken care of, he went to jail. Our daughter was born at that time, though I was taking her to see him. I doubt that time We really kind of fell apart because afterwards, but, like I said I just I was done, I couldn't do it anymore, so we were still married. I didn't fire for divorce or anything at that time. The end he had gone to or again I'm with his mom and then from there. He was in washington, with his dab dab, who is no longer living and then to mine.
She was living with another girl by the name of mary, an artist relationship had broken down long before his disappearance, found out. He was missing when she got a call from the finer la vita, me and told me that she wanted me to know that danny with messy and then she proceeded to tell me that now the florida she told me, I was completely different, then she's shared with anybody. You know, like the other kids, but she told me that, basically, what had happened was. He went crazy because I filed for divorce and which I didn't understand, because it was a couple of years later and he had already gotten on with his life. You know up in washington, so she told me and then she told me about what had happened was that he had gotten into an argument with his bomb and his sister, and he was
very angry and levinus said she thought he was stirring gain, and so they were by the rogue river and she took off running. and was running through a bunch of the like the wild, berries and stuff and the train was getting real thick and they couldn't keep up with him, and she said that she He heard a splash in the water and then they finally were able to make their way through the bushes who, where he's supposed to be jump in He found his shoes on the side of the river and shit for me that she had put some missing persons, posters that she had made you now and she contacted psychic to try to. Find out what had happened to him and you know, and then of course I was asking her questions like. Why are you contacting the high kick? Instead of working,
the police department, men. At that point I started calling the police department- nordic exe and why she believes danny could be in mexico. So bitterly three months after she moved her mexico, she kept her phone line going over here at all up in oregon and when I would speak to her she had analogies? None of it may have found. She was she bird showed any room you no remorse for upside. So I then, like I said, started keeping in church with the department, the police officer that reforming up in oregon, and she told me I mean when he can say, that they got nothing out. Finally, he told me that he said in all the years but I've been on the forest. He said this is definitely a classic case of somebody who does not want to be fountain and so on. I asked them so you think that he's still alive- and he told me I very much- do you think he is
and he said I dont think that there is any evidence that shows that he is actually not living anymore, and he said I've seen too much of it this type of thing and your craft a case of someone who does not want to be found, and then I started question remains too, because I I even mentioned to her. It doesn't make sense that somebody is going to jump into a river yet stopped to take time long enough to take their shoes off and then jump in and it just it was just certain things. Just did not make sense to me and, and then she came to a point to where she no longer. I offer my calls, and until this day she she doesn't answer my calls, and she was supposed to me my mom when a to mexico and had called for by now, and they were supposed to mean
my final went through all of the plans with my mom, but once she got to the port they were going to. Beach was going to come and pick her up and have lunch and take her to this new house that she had and then, when my mom got there, she call then, of course, the vine and never answer the phone and never showed up in my mom called try calling for a couple of weeks after an irish. No, you know she never out certain, and I tell you that because our long, I just the story to me, has not there's too many missing pieces, and and I honestly with all my heart- believes that maybe not today, but I believe that he was why are we? He was still alive. I believe that he know I don't have proof for any of this. It's just been in their family and merits a ham and- and though we got here-
they own the timing business when I came into the picture and they never took taxes out of his ajax. He out that taxes here, weren't. You know! Do you wise in that kind of stuff? He owed child support to the state, a california for shame he. There are so many things going on with him and when he was arrested. When I hear the rest because of the situation between him, and I shortly thereafter, he also by over again and I guess Levine a could bail firemen. He jumped bail and then now, then he answered missing not long after a while- I guess you're whatever after that, but something that shame they told me that I asked him if he had shared with you, and he said he completely forgot.
and tell him- and I were talking, and we were like trying to achieve everything together again and he said that one he went on a job with his dad. He was sitting in the back of their their work, fan and danny had sad. While he alpha had told chain to that. If anything ever happens where he had to disappear, he would be using the last name which remain its was my made them. I think for that twice that he had set out, but he also sad him in his stepped up or talking about. If he had to disappear. He was going to end up going to move a hey, maxie, co and shane told me that at the time because he was young, he said that he thought it was like some fantasy place. You know he didn't realize that was someplace real and then he told me a couple of weeks ago that he literally lifted up and he said farewell place than he said it in others, like thirty, two hundred people were powerful, baja mexico used it.
If you were, you couldn't even get there, except for by plane. Now there, sir grout out there so shane biggest thing he kept telling me is: how did he know that, many years ago about the flu or hay, when there no internet, nothing like that. So it's just again: it's like another easy, we're hiding out. As you know, what I'm saying in effect, there's just so many little bits and pieces and levine tells a different story to everybody. She told a different story that changed for the story. To me, she told it to story that there are other granddaughter police officer that was on the case at that time. Told me doesn't believe afghani is missing that he is very much alive, but your typical case of someone who does not want to be found- and he told that you need to quite a few years after that because he did tommy also. He said that generally want. Someone is the thing, especially in a body water tat long after he said their body is gonna, come up somewhere just going
somewhere. You know whether it's about whether it's something but there's gonna be some sort of body somewhere. That's gonna end up period and No, he told me yet because there was some stuff he couldn't tell me to, and he did say that to me, but he also told me to do the same thing. I said because I mentioned to him about the tennis or the shoes on the side, the tennis shoes. I guess what they were and I guess there really was shoes there, but they weren't danny's, five that he wore. So that tells me too that levine I either put shoes there or she just happened to see shoes and added it to her story. But you know again: who's going to take at the time, a third that distraught and that out of their head and angry or whatever and they're running, to get away from somebody and they're going to jump in you're not going to take your shoes off, I mean most often you're not going to take your shoes off If anything, you might take your shirt off or something but you're not going to stop to take your shoes off and then put them neatly on the you know, five by five right there on the fan
Despite her belief that danny is in mexico, Nora doesn't Harry any hard feelings about the situation. Fanny had an enormous harm, I mean He really really was not a bad person. She just unfortunately, I had a family and that were drinkers and he grew up in santa Paula, small town. Alas, drugs there, you don't mess up the wrong people, Many people seem to assume that danny went to the water that day, but they always expected that is remains would turn up eventually. I know the waiter on through the years there was always there. I never heard this first hand no from the police, but, like the police said after that amount of time I would have been remains gown, and so there were thinking man. Maybe he just took off and disappear because
you know somebody falls into a river. Eventually they find some bones or body or something but nothing's ever been found over the years remains have been recovered that they thought could be danny. There has been twice and they brought my grandma and my sister that lives real close by up there. Dna tests policeman two times and then the remained ended up, not being him sheen struggles with the idea that his father could have been and him and his siblings, but he just doesn't think something his father would do I've been thinking about this work over the past week and I think it's one of two things he took off or something. But he was involved with in that area. Java idle series upon the take off honestly, I know he had some leg tax evasion and to pay tax.
in multiple years and has some child support issues. It was all financial things, but I don't see that as a as a good enough reason to take off and forget your whole family, I don't see it left now. I don't think that's in my dad's personality, honest with the flip side of that wall, St Paul. If he did take off, he would have come back by now and, like I said he was, he did evade taxes We always worked castile jobs. He was a journeyman clamour, but so he was already kind of off the radar level bit before this ever happened. You guys, I would see it in easy or for him since he already would like that. To take off and stay off, the radar were others, don't say, I'm doing tat. He was so some about my dad and his mom like the kind of moved around like a lancaster, California, the
and they went back and forth come by he'd, never stayed away from asthma. Mikey always live somewhere in the vicinity in the same city, when, if like her and my grandpa moved to like cause, they always like had a business of some sort. They moved to a different state and start a business. I mean within a few months dad- would move and day. He never went too far from her. I know he out some child support to my mom was like he coming if the murder and he was wanted for that and running. You know what I mean like tax evasion. I mean what a shame I think that his father would have walked away, but sheen sister, spoke to one of the witnesses. Who said, something that meet him. Second, guess that, so I talk to my sister, who was younger than me. she's younger than me by like six or seven years, but she lives up there right by where all this happened, but, like I said
and he ran off. It was a my grandma, my aunt and my ex boyfriend tim, so she said that she went and paid a visit to tam years later, once she got older and misguide him that after he ran off, he seen my dad again and talked to him and, according to my sister and sister story of this conversation that he said he just didn't want to be found. This was like the same day of anthony like he ran off and everyone kind of spread out looking for him and he happened to run at dawn This guy cam is that now, so I can't verify any of that. He actually had a conversation well according to what he told my sister, but so this guy was always on math pike forever. So I dunno how much away It was true. I don't know, I don't know if he was delusional that day, I don't know, I only met them.
I think, I'm like once or twice when my alive. He would always done. he eventually died from being a gigantic. wash one for fifty percent off your first month we were also able to speak with detective tim pike about this case. He didn't have this case back in ninety ninety five. When danny went missing, he told us at about what he does and how he became involved in danny's case by name of temporary, a detective with the jackson county sheriff's office, and I work for about the last twenty years. I worked as a death investigator on what actually detached with the medical examiner's office, so my machine investigators is my typical day to day function. I came to detective a and about two thousand to two thousand and three, and so are missing persons. I mean we all
at some point. We try to learn a little bit about each case. Justin in case a tip comes then, or were talking to somebody that something is managed. Maybe ok, I think I know the case there talking about so we tried to become a low. Familiar with with our long term meseems and saw that was find out who I knew about danny Kelly on vague terms. I know a little bit about the disappearance and that it was still a long term missing initially the case was investigated by a patrol officer, ron walls and so
have sort of been assigned a it was his beat or his section of the county he was covering when the family reported him. So he took the initial report back in that era and a mid nineties, we had several deputies that were also a search and rescue coordinators. If you will and so RON took the initial report and then he contacted a search and rescue deputy to to coordinate a searches, so ron kind of became the case agent. If you will so, he was reported on june Second of mighty. Ninety five as missing his mother had gone, and I think we later find out. It was mother and sister had gone to his address to pick him up his roommate or a person. I was living on the property with danny called the mud
on the thirty first and said: hey, you need to come and get Danny he's, acting, rational come described this irrational behaviour regos. I can't I can't be with him. You need to come, get him get him to a hospital, and so the mother- and I believe it was also the sister went to the property and they saw danny and he's described. I dont think it was initially but emma the next day and then several days later, he described by several people is being jaundiced or yellow. They said his skin appeared to be yellow and he appeared to be kinda bloated and but he was a. He was talking to people that weren't present. They also describe a he had scratches or maybe similar to a running through blackberry.
An exposed area of his of his skin and a little bit of blood but just sort of these scratch marks and they tried to get him to come into the car and he took off running? I guess it would sorta be a southbound direction. Ah, but the rogue river runs right behind the property that he was at and they described the kind of runs into the trees into the bushes, and they don't see him in a later. In our view, I believe in two thousand and eight the family actually set of one or another individual was present. He went running. I believe it was the sister her boyfriend- they went running after danny and they couldn't find him in the in the thicket if he will or the brush and then they heard allowed sound. They said it could be
a gunshot or it could have been the sound of somebody hitting the water and so that that kind of comes out about thirteen years later. That initial piece, I don't think, was shared with ron, had the investigating deputy. So I believe it comes out a detective Eric fox or my believe. It's in two thousand and eight re contacts, the family, the president's dna initiative had kind of dan, and so we were going back through cold cases contacting families making stir we had dna to send to the university of nor texas, so detective fox contacted the family, and I think that's where that is made known to us Tat, if pike told us more about that sandwich that was allegedly found during the search for danny, they said during one of those circles, and so
I don't know if they mean early on or a family search that was done later, underneath and overpass rock point bridge which goes over the rope river. They find a bad role and bacon and of a sandwich, and I think the savages surely eaten and they tell attacked a fox that that was danny's, favorite sandwich, and I don't think we have a timeframe on that, though, as far as you know, that three months later, six months or a year or whatever, but it's just a sandwich that they saw they were made aware of it being there, and I just said that was Danny's favorite sandwich, so what I make of it. I don't know I mean if it's his favorite sandwich rise
some remaining. The was my first purse puppet other than that I mean just this thing that's mentioned and obviously there's nothin weaken do with that. I mean we. We can't recover, go look for it or whatever. So it's just something that was mentioned by the family. I think detective fox, just kind of okay and he put it in a report, but uh. Nothing obviously was done with it detective pike told us that after all these years, no one has come forward with any evidence suggesting that someone else harm danny nothing in the report to suggest anybody had something to do with his disappearance, even
in the two thousand and eight interviews. Ah, the family kinda goes back to danny, not being a healthy. I believe there was some chronic alcohol use, but family friends stayed. You know he appeared jaundiced and typically that could be a sign of liver failure. End stage, liver, these damn so they described that, but then the behavior so obviously, he had met them. I remain or drug and do this behaviour or it could be a mental illness. He was having a mental episode, or so I mean we we don't know, but then we just have him running that stays consistent.
you know him running toward the rogue river and disappearing, and so for somebody to have done something after that we just don't have any evidence of it. There's been no. No one else has ever come forward to suggest in on alternative. adding to the mystery of this case. Detective pike says it most: people who have drowned in the rope river in the area have been found. I think it was the next day search and rescue. There was boots on the ground if he well, they scoured the edges of the rope river. We can offer a mild one a mile, laughter and and then they took a cadaver dog downstream workin. edges of the rogue river, and so there was efforts put em too. Yeah. No initially was there any evidence or sign danny and now typically
is that go under the rope wherever there certainly points or the rug. Rivers are very far moving river, depending on the time a year, but typically people that goal the rope river are found and again I am I use typically in broad terms, but Typically, people that we know have gone into ever so say we'll have a witness. You know somebody trying to swim across dead. Then they their seen going under. Typically within a few days we find them for the next county over will find them. So that's just the other piece of this that I I don't really know what to do with why if he did go the rogue river. Why hasn't he been found? It depended on the time of year, like I said in, and what part you go in. so the area word danny repeated going
in that area. To bequeath it's not really that fast. Moving writer pretty brought in that area, and so in that time, a year of summer time, if he did go in and round, he could have just gone under an his body should have surfaced kind of with the comp and then the temperature of the river, in that kind of thing he may be, should have surfaced in a day or two or if he kind of went down stream. There's areas just kind of trying to think my directions here, but kind of north of where he is they're gonna be kind of show points where he may be. Could I got caught up on some logs debris in that kind of thing, so the robber resist kind of funny it depends on where you go with it. Like I said, there's not, I can't think of a case
where we, we know somebody's gone into the river that we have recovered em at la just kind of to you that way, and over the years I mean I've worked- probably twenty twenty or thirty cases where pay my uncle was swimming across. Then we watch deem get in trouble and we couldn't get to hammer. You know those kind of cases somebody falls off a boat and I can't find men than we find him a day or two later so that that's kind of my point typically p. go on in that area. The rogue river gets much more dangerous one, You get under the adjoining counties, Josephine county, a very dangerous areas of the rogue river, and there are people that have not been recovered from those area. So I guess my point kind were danny one m. If he did go into the river, my guess would be. He would have been recovered
point so even a couple years later, yet a boner. Something comes up and his discovered, and so I guess that's kind of odd to me if danny didn't go into the river that night. What else could have happened to him shall burn if he doesn't go under the river he wanders then, and certainly this area lots of mountains, lots of wilderness, so he is delusional or havin a mental episode, or does he go somewhere and you know dies of exposure dies of whatever falls hit as its head. You know, gets a traumatic brain injury and dies. Then animals typically become involved. They'll start scattering and
I saw again, why has a bone surfaced? We have lots of hunters. We have lots of mushroom hocker herself, there always finding bones so again, why hey, you know why I haven't, we discovered something you know, and typically they call a man. We go out on lots and lots of bones better turn out to be animal people. Do all the man you know hey. I found this bone. I think its human with this county, A great great search and rescue team We we act on all of that. Every time a bone is discovered were but nice often it. If we have question wiess send food. I just add one last week, we're digging a trench in in town and they found a bone and yeah I mean I looked at it and I'm like
boy that is pretty close and I sense of several photos upload our anthropology. She said now, it's not human, so we have things in place in this county, I mean we treat any found bound seriously, so I hasn't something Annie Kelly surfaced am my only other thought that if he died and of eritrea were a remote area at the bottom of a clear somewhere may be were an animal could not get to him and he just hasn't been discovered. I mean that's a possibility we had a recovered person here. Seventy years ago. It was a machine we had for three years then, but was an area we recovered. Probably ninety percent of him very, very little scattering just because the bigger animals couldn't get to himself
Maybe he is out there and just has not been discovered, because the lack of scattering that is another possibility, looking at it from a death investigator histories, so important. I almost rather have history than a body because history typically will tell you why somebody died, and so, when I kind go back to that, you know this is somebody that's not acting like you, normally axe, yellow and so compromise behaviour in also did that led him to wander off in, like a said, follow and us pain or you can also come if the environment or outside of the rogue river, I certainly he could be somewhere that he just hasn't been found or animals can't get to him to to help us find him if he will just sort of my personal thoughts on it.
While speaking to detective pike, he made an interesting point about my some cases. Go unsolved. My fear is that Somebody a county pick one on the co say somebody terms than a bone pay a human and they go well we're not sure, and they put it and evidence that bone is still setting an evidence stories like that do happen. This thinking about this over years, his body remains or partial remains, could be some where in storage here in this county and I'm gonna go back ten ten or twelve years ago, I got a call from one of the city, small city police. they said. Hey we're going through purging inventory. And we found a human skull. I'm why why? Why would
put a human skull and evidence and magically it's gonna get far. You know so I go retrieve, add an the tea thirst, the upper dentition, but there definitely like flat- and it looks very old, so I get a hold of the estate anthropologist. I get it then so that in the back of my head, I'm I always kind. I worry about that- that somebody has. An agency has a bone or something, and the whole system is only as good as everybody contributes to it. So you know in this day and age are still agencies that don't know about you and t. They don't know about name they don't know about. You know to do when you have fine stopper. Yet thank you have stuff and asked for help danny has been missing for nearly twenty four years, but detective pike is still.
Hoping that someone will come forward with a clue. Then what them solve this and bring closure to his family. Anyone has obviously area amazing about danny Kelly or so? The other thing is that sometimes people will hold onto information uh. Oh I'm sure the police already know this, and so they won't come forward a we found that in cases where you know we ve been. Are you view people a year or two later and I'll say? Well, I thought you knew that and now this is the first time we ve heard that so if somebody has something that they think we already know, please sharer with us. So It is my number one thing do not ever feel like what I have to offer. Isn't gonna be important and or what I have I'm sure somebody else has already told you, so that's them
if the guy would get out to people. If you have anything about Danny Kelly, let us know about that. They could call the main sheriff's office phone number, which is area code. Five, four one, seven, seven, four, six, eight zero zero. row and day or night. Let us know: hey. I've got information on a long term. Missing person Danny Cowley and somebody will be in touch to get that statement or do get that information in spoke about the effect his father's disappearance has had on his life. On Monday. I went on a drug banned her multiple years, whatever his nose myself. Medication I'm allowed nothing. Then, when the same since her disappearance, I was seventeen yeah. I mean that message me forever, thou my so I just had my my first tiled in november
before. I went out there to visit him, but my my child was still new points. I can take her up at their to visitor congratulate him. Being a grandpa and all that stuff stay with it for a month, and I came back and yeah then this happened right. memory. I must first follows day, being a father was without my dad. You know it was a. It was a pretty messed up time and then at the fuel. My drug addict, away in and out approves then and now from when I turned a key, though as twenty one, I was pretty much approved all time, then I could Doing drugs to stay with us all four long years, and now, I'm sixteen months sober off our own, harry. I'm haven't touched drugs in my ten years. Now I don't drink or anything. So I dumb an active member of the steps that they were to get somewhere and all that stuff and through all that process
I always knew about it like a kind of realized like this thing with my dad was like a big issue with me and I kind of fueled, my my always wanting to be known. and draw occur whatever you know so well, so I quit map. After a couple times going to print ass, a man overcome Ado that stuff I got a prison. I was able to work and keep a job and raise my kids when I was drinking, but after multiple years a drink like I had to drink every day, or else I'd get the tea. So I was kind of like a functioning alcoholic then went to work, but then I just realized my I've gotta quit after all these years, the still wonders if her son could be out there somewhere alive. Sometimes I think still around, and he doesn't know anything because of what he was given. Then if he hid his head when he went in the river and he's just somewhere, I can tell you
what and how I met in in the six years that we were down there. I know he wanted to go to mexico so bad and he's the type that would find his mother. You know he's the type that would look for me. There was a guy in a restaurant from a distance. I thought, oh, my god, I think pits destiny, of course remain in the rest of the people at the tables. That's not danny. Em. All boy looked like a minute, wouldn't surprise may cause he would he would come looking for me. I mean if he wanted to find me. He wouldn't stop at nothing. So that's why I feel
guilty, I stopped at something you know I stopped at a time. I didn't want to even go to mexico at that time, but we'd already bought a place down there. I went, and I felt like I was deserving. My son nora, told us about the impact this has had on all of danny's children, but I feel bad for shane, because shane out of all the kids, with the oldest and and shane two had you know he again, he was brought up with a family who his mom and I have nothing against his mom, but she also was mixed up with drugs. He had a dad that was mixed up with drugs and alcohol and He was caught in the middle of a he's been given bears and everything else by his grandparents and his dad and he was young, went danny, went missing it with ice
with our ready on about path, and now he carries out with him because he said that he felt like he didn't do thing and like I told them that chain you're a kid. What were you gonna do seriously. What were you gonna do? There was nothing you could do and I do feel bad for him because he to last a lotta years with his dad. yeah, you know in all of them. All of them have been affected by it in one way or another because of the craziness behind it all. So what happened to Danny Kelly on may thirty? First, ninety. Ninety five did he simply run off in a delusional state and drowned in the river? was this sum staged incident, so he could run off to mexico, leaving behind all of the problems that he had here. Is it true that tim saw him after he ran off and danny that he just didn't wanna be found or did years drug abuse. Taint TIM's memory
as nor too believes that Lavinia knows more while working in this case. One thing that stood out to me was that in the early interviews and danny's file Everyone mentions that he looked yellow his sister. That, along with personality changes, he now had a slower tolerance for alcohol. Could it be as detective pikes suggested, but he was experiencing some kind of medical issue like a liver problem and had no idea. Even if that is the case is doesn't solve the mystery of what happened to danny killing women. Never know exactly what happened to danny, but she in seeking to find some answers, enclosure he's been deeply affected by his father. There's disappearance wendy went missing? He was described as six feet, tall and wing approximately one hundred and sixty pounds with brown, hair and green eyes. If of any information about danny's disappearance. Please call the jackson county sheriff's office at five for one. Seventy
for sixteen hundred, I even call that bang went back. You know where he will let the missing people that number. That was because I like that you all the time before danny ever went missing.
