Rachel yeah she's got like purple harrods aunt, rachel's gonna. Do this I'm on it I'm on it! Well done their stuff! You see in your like. I got it just! Never pull that! I, like you, see a horrid you're going. You can pull that! I wish I could. But you know I can't pull off hats as like those wide brimmed hat. You see like pats inside, like a camp not tat person not help her son by no longer need for christmas is ahead. But it's a frequent anywhere the country triple eight eight to five five, two to five said this: article K throw john and it was just fascinating. Others couple bought a shed. And thirdly, and to their home and then
hold it for profit, limited money off of it yeah? Did you get that you get that and this is my gratitude- is like fantasy is the wrong word here. But this is like a thing I dream about like I want to get some land and then just go to home depot and buy shed and make it incredible, and no never do that and they did it. Yes, they did at money off. They did they sold it. I guess I am acreage or another arm or a how sold at four for three hundred and twelve thousand hours April. Twenty one after living in it slightly longer than a year or at the shed, they didn't sell, except for that much dinner. So what it was Have you been home deeper lately, but that's what I There are three hundred thousand they're, not really I'm just being silly. Oh my gosh, I was like wait. Why I think there is actually a tick tock, video right that weaken play the sea, but they
that's way nicer than when I was expecting it out to just go like it's got a porch. It's got porch, it's too stories. Ok, I, when I had picture, I read the article was way different, the that's right there, s precise, Then they put would floors in it and it's got like no granite, countertops stuff. It's really nice inside so there you go, and so they just gotta pee warburton by debt and the weight of life and death and went out their story, so they behaved as went to a different. Wait, which things also are here that all over the place that people are like, I'm going to sell my house and move to an rv and er. I miss. I want people to be careful, though, a lot of folks are what a lot of eight she tv in a lot of you, two clips about living in it in a developing container, vandam by the river right or whatever it may be careful It's really cool, or some great shows that you can go look documentaries on a movie. Tiny home
four months later, like yours, my actual liable to knock right right, slow, it still is different and I feel like too but if the gin see, though the younger level of the millennials. That is that's a thing to go by a school bus or to go by then you know oh, but you'd, better, get on instagram and you'll, see like a real and you're like oh my gosh, you get to go there and you're sleeping like the whole thing, and it it's glamorous and wonderful, and then yeah you don't see, there's a reality to it. This horror, everything else everything I do like the idea of just opting out- and I think you and I talked about this on another- show my wife, moved into a resident all I could do Ass right with a two year old and we did it for a year and cleared up our lives change our old. So there is a season to do that. If you're gonna get radical, not always and forever solution for that time. Irony, the cause and stephen from lexington is pay stephen welcome to the show You're not gonna absolute good. How are you round it
well good. How can we help so I got a question master, my wife it may appear today. Information as thirty thousand dollars credit card debt, oh, I didn't know she had I wouldn't do that way. Nourishment gonna twenty year old, unchecked, a year old. and oh she's done misdemeanant before she wrecked a toy outside your credit card. Tat and I didn't move at your show them, so I kind of and what about tax and declared dead myself and guided by back and I really thought- if you got him in the credit card, they would, she would you wouldn't get a big limited time because it couldn't be both in ninth anyway it looks like it at all so go now till now. She didn't told me that she likes to her little percent on their credit card or expiring,
and she wants to take out a home loan bulgaria has its bite off now No, you don't take a lean against her house. No, no, that's! That's it! That's a hard Ok, so stephen, were you guys are at in marriage do you consider yourselves on the same page with money or you are still living- pretty supper lives look into work and play the opposite money lies I mean I'm cash. the only person I mean yadda, yadda and agree with the draft. A paragraph car, but I use it so in my debit card, Stephen and she's, not on the phone. So I'm just going to address you as a cool apply, and so she did something she violated to trust right time around violated trust was deceitful. We call that financial infidelity here I cheated on you with money. She lied to you and Another way, look that if she acted like a child right, jack and child.
I want it now. I'm gonna do never have to do to get now, and you responded luck. It a child. You do a temper tension you split everything up, he yelled in you kicked and scream, and you took your ball and I'm going home and I'll just do it myself. You find yourself right back in the same spot in so this situation need this, isn't a math promoting its clear, a math problem like rachel said absolutely, don't put your house up on the block declared this mass right. You have to have some directed behavior change inside your house but brother, it the aren't just now, not on the same page when it comes to your marriage, you're, not in the same aged with much anything would be. My gas and you'll been pride, great roommates in good, buddies. but this is a wake up wake, such is that very much right. Okay, as frequently as you tried, so there's ace a place where she is violating your marriage. Covenant she's lying to you as the place where she can't talk to you, because maybe
blow your top. Maybe you get pissed off and run around and thence to solve the problems, and so this can be Tom either the thing that breaks break your marriage and you see I'm done with you- tell me the truth, I'm out of here, This can be the moment that you stop the music you throw all the lights on in the disco. Then you look at her in the eye and say: we've got to heal us and that's going to start with us. Get an honest about where we are ethics in our marriage and get serious about money. stephen. You know when we hear these kinds of where's or situations for us we're like ok, there's! A money problem obviously has attacked the way to go about that. The zero percent to take away my house and all that, but really
What we're hearing, though, is underneath the surface that there are more marriage issues than even financial issues and when you guys can get the marriage issues solved out of that comes healthier habits with money that you guys think can work as a team, because right now, you're not working as a team with your money and just like John said, probably a lot of other areas in life. So I would really it's a symptomless credit card. Debt is a symptom of things going on in the marriage. So I would encourage you guys, get some help. Get therapy get counseling and start working on your marriage, and then your money becomes more of a team. The job student loans, millions of americans are stuck in student loan debt with ridiculous interest rates. Now the welcome back to the ramsey show I'm at ramsey personality, rachel cruz hosting this hour with doctor John de loney and david is up next in richmond, hey dave,
welcome to the show how you doing we're doing great How can we help bourbon Thirdly, I have you making thousand owed on each frock and I was wondering if I should ballot between twenty one and twenty eight and by another vehicle. I found another trot for fourteen thousand cash and commissioner, that you have the truck, that's just the truest track. How much you make a year, a model ecuador right now, I'm bringing home about two thousand a week, two thousand a week a time. So I am unsure about before tat. ok, yeah, so it'll be a little less than a hundred dear fort
Did you have? Fourteen thousand dollars in cash and rs thirty, four thousand in cash, might just pay off the truck David a well I. Really don't don't want it anymore? Ok, if you don't care for it. It's kind of like a well it'll, be fifteen hundred drug and a twenty five hundred really, my lifestyle better. Or fantastic. That's the first time, I've ever heard somebody say to twenty five hundred that really will suit my lifestyle that you're going up into. I don't know, I just need a bigger. You need a bigger truck. That means you tribute to all bore to her. Oh so you're, actually hall and you're, not just like wanting to show up at the club a little bit louder, a little bit cooler,
now. That would all day I think you are I'm with his eva johns live, but I'm with you not not I don't even know what that means. Ok, so my thing is so you don't want the current truck. You have you can sell it for twenty eight and then you can turn around and pay cash for. The actual truck that you want is that what I'm hearing yeah do that today, due to her bed well, yeah your gas price will A bug do today, would you know, what's what's what are you well, it will cause you not do because you'd even call it ask or dave ramsay not the guy and other than financing that darn trop dominant, worked really hard to pay Thirty, fourth out now, as I went to day, I pulled the fourteen out in cash and I'll miss out panic attack,
was looking at it. Is that your emergency? I guess you could I dunno you could consider it my six months while they would definitely longings, but mom yeah you're here by yes, I would The truck makes improve but off of it takes mere savings, but it's gathered by a truck and cash that you can afford and then you're going to eat a bright past baby step three point with a view to find an emergency just lock up your room. She fun in never ever spend it out of it ever unless its actual merges it. This is an emergency. This is something's gonna, fit your lifestyle, that's a different thing! Right, right and and also have another rock, older, alot, more miles. That's what I'm used to work out of it. I do a little bit. landscape and entry work on the side that that thing on its last legs. But I'd like to get rid of this new rwanda. Another new will not new trotted off the two thousand five
but another really nice truck, that can tell a lot more be better to set up my life yeah. Do it do? Do it quit thinking about get it a demo? You get it. You got a david lock up their emergency fund, put it away and in get on with your life yet, and I think that an I failed to we can be and this badly I kind of feel semi justified room using that savings because it He has more and at the money needs for emergency funds, and he's gonna, be in a position where he's babies that he's getting rid of that truck parents We together forty yeah for what he needs, and he has the extra margins are so that's great great. David thanks for thanks for the question of next. We have andrew in phoenix, hey Andrew, welcome to the show- you're gonna die great, How can we help and so my wife is the one. We follow the ramsey plan, but we have credit cards for the sole purpose of buying a house one day.
And I'm going to get rid of the credit card that I don't see, a clear path to buying a riding on. Can canadian walk or the profits, yeah you're com broken up a little bit andrew, so yeah. So basically, what manual underwriting is is is the where you don't dont have a score and it's on a score of zero, its baseline undetermined score, because you have paid off all of your dad. You have no debt on record for close to twenty four, across our credit score, say your your credit score will to lower azure paying off debt because the way credit score is calculated. Mathematically is all around debt, so it's you know but you're paying on your dead. How much knew tat your choir you're that history? All this? If you stop going into debt and you pay it off, naturally, score is going to lower and it's gonna take about twenty four months for its basely get to undetermined eighteen to twenty four months and then from there. When you go get a mortgage, you do the process called manual underwriting. That's where the mortgage company actually has the look at you, the person versus just a credit score look at you, so you have to
I have really on record an employer for two years to show that you have income a stable job and you have to be current. all of your bills, so your cell phone electricity's, you keep track of all that and to prove that you have on time bills for two years and usually does together, maybe some more paperwork. It's definitely more of a fusing labour. Intensive process to do manual underwriting versus just a credit score cause again when you have a credit score is a score and it's just you get error, you don't I mean it's that simple where man your handwriting, they accede to look at you. The persons are there some investigating that they do. But then the mortgage company will No, it's underwrite you, the mortgage, they'll bright at themselves. Basically in a sense torres picture it and you can go to the process so and if you ve in the last few years, as the time right, because mortgage companies are
not having the years. They ve had the last four years. Yes, and so, if you sit down and say or do may on, writing, though work with yes, and having a good down payment to answer is that when you guys go in two purchasing a home. You want to make sure that your completely deaf free and you have a full funded emergency funds in the bank and then separate from even that savings that you have a good down payments of your first, I'm homebuyers, five percent the low end? If you can get up to twenty percent, you can avoid p m. I and you save some money, and that idea, not the case always for bore, but that's that's coming. formula we look at and that your mortgage payment, as no more than twenty five percent of your take him pay on a fifteen year fixed rates So if all of that kind of works, Andrew yeah, that's what you Do you any arrogant mortgage companies? They they still. This process sums won't like I've talked to people like. Why tried with this ban for this and they they said no so you do have to shop around her chum orchids is
company nationally? That for sure, does it we endorse them because they are from the top ones that help people get homes without a credit score, doing the Ramsay way and what we teach so it's possible answer and this exciting its suppose my mind. that conversation never happens nobody knows that even exists. There's an alternative pathway doesn't way to opt out of the system right and you still get home that you want to do the things that you need to do in your life still does not yet on a gap, an answer to I would encourage you guys just give her the credit cards, The sole purpose was to have them to build up. Credit score of credit score that you don't even really need. by home, then get rid of them, I don't even have the temptation there. I think, back to college. I headed credit card that I just used to pay off everything till that one month that my reimbursement check came in and my transmission fell out of my little eighty, eight, your cell hatchback and I have a
Can I have no transmission, so I took that check in it. Transmission, and now I've got a credit card bill right ever had a bill, but it had the minded pick it up in all sudden. that's how that happens. I was just playing the game. It was always going to be a dollar for dollar, as it was never going to happen to me, and then it did and everyone's like. Oh, I just have it just in case there's an emergency. You know we never use it, but it's just there and I'm like okay in the christmas sneaks up and you're like oh crap, I get actually this one time to get sick and we got to buy tickets right now. Yeah we gotta get airline tickets, just go ahead and do it you know, did it at life starts happening and visa

It's John myself, george cam all, can comment and dave ramsay in some part of the event. Our just sitting round table does in current events, and we all have a little bit of different, takes and opinions on certain things, but the overall value and principles of building wealth we definitely all land in the same way, but the way we go about that some. So but its guidelines, somebody will say like now ah pretty sure we landed on the moon and the other the table
the great old say, never happen. he just saying. If, during the cold war, the soviet union was sketchy, we really tried to race the moon ago. I would just not be sure, I'm not gonna get into it. We can have a conspiracy theory segment later. That would be fun. We learned the day when virus, but it would be really fun. Okay up next is cindy. An anchorage, alaska, hey Cindy, welcome to the show you. How are you where to Well, how can we help won't? We had a but if the situation up here, we are currently in baby step to plugging along on that For weeks ago, we had a major house, but here yeah it's up I am very pleased that my husband is its healing, quickly. Eve is nearly healed and we all made it out even the dogs,
cat, so suddenly tat. He knows I agree very while, given the situation of a total loss or replace It's not habit of all. We have major region in our future and we can't even get to started don't until next spring and will hopefully be in our home again by christmas, twenty twenty three: ok, I don't even know why you're calling, but before we get going, can I challenge you on one thing: and then, after a challenge it- and you can ask the question: unless you just hang up on me a moron. one of them. Rate. Curses of our time is comparison of grief of some it happens to us its devastating hard scary, frustrating annoying. and we are first thought is because we are no cultural capacity. To be sad, we don't have space for right, if, if your mother,
as is the way you get three days off of work, and you better be back here in if it's a grandparent or a cousin. If you have vacation time, you get right, we have oh cultural capacity for just stopping in saying this is awful the way you presented its fine. everything's good husband, it's healing and we lost everything in a year and a half will have our house, here's the thing, your boy body to quote vander caucus keeping score you can put. and and play that it's all gonna be great. I think it's really important to spend some time be real real said I resting, because I know one, including myself, can figure out. Why have I heard about the shut? I'm not really sure if I haven't most of the time when I've worked the people behind closed doors who say that line closely behind. I don't know I haven't cried yet is If I started crying, I don't think I'd ever be able to stop and also key- you don't have to
Uncle crimes not a right way. This is gonna, look for everybody, some people to simply down, but it is potent and also to give to your kids, because your kids, Those probably scared they're still morning still they lost their storm, which unfortunately, we don't have children. Ok, ok but while we have the dogs, what's that We have a dogma, but yeah, but here's the thing great together guy, I know the temptation and it feels like it's right to make everything look great, so husband can feel better man y'all lost a lot. Kai WU can definitely get and you're going to rebuild out of the ash together and what comes next is going to be incredible, but it takes a season, a grief, alright, so that's all that. So what? What? What? How can we help? I do I want. First of all, we appreciate you told me that, because I was wondering if there was something wrong with me, for not in my mind, but no you private exhaled. Yet
yeah, I'm not really were very busy. I ever for pine job. I have a secondary chop and even I hope we have been budgets company in the western world. We use busy as Xanax. much. I'm trying not till I got here. More, doesn't stop so it's a little difficult, especially in babies. A chill it concerns. Do I part or keep pushing my situation is as follows. It is if I can just explain I just a moment about joint laterally effort. immediately in our house burns down commerce we a friend brought in a as well as its older. You know weeks not invoke. Looking like that, what kind of sheltering in place in there We ran a generator until a couple weeks ago.
What kinda like drugs that we do have the power to stop. Now, however, and I've gotta hotspot, gun and working I options are as follows, of what we're thinking about doing it and I don't know if I'm taking it off as just completely psychologically or what actual logical choice, will be one baby step to fifty three thousand seven hundred us that we are putting away and planned on being done this year between a hundred and twenty five hundred and thirty on average, with our own business back, fluctuate up and down the two when looking at, is while the purchase our own foresee then we'll stay in place, because I as it is here all our equipment is here and the day after the fire. Someone did try and come in and steal one of our trucks. So there's a psychological. Eric error that if ye are not right here that we could lose
worn by somebody actually getting away with it. Luckily, we were able to get home and stop the situation, but it's a it's a definite fear for the amount of equipment we have here for a company, or do we purchase that We all that, like seventy five thousand dollars to get money out and do that and then use. You oughta stipend as while in just paid out- and I don't take on more that, so that's breaking out or the adoption of the stairs costs to bring in a climax walker written down, build a securities and blocked the down trying it security, got began to the court's. All that will happen the pirates while- and go to my my changing parents have said we get about the bottom up, or helped and down there are not, far away, but I have two dogs account. They have two dogs there older my husband watch them, except in the winter, because we switch from construction to show him
I see needless to say, we're going to put you on hold we're gonna put you on hold and we're going to hold you over the break, run up against the clock, and so hang on the line and there's a couple of things that we want to kind of talk. but some good options that you presented send these all you're right back to you after this break. This is the ramses show.
But the back to their ramses show us we're gonna pick up this call from its send in alaska and her and her husband were on the journey of. and adapt baby up to they. Fifty three thousand dollars left and and then they had a major house, fire or house burned down everyone is ok and now,
was just trying to figure out navigate next steps and what to do so sudden cindy. But you said it covers kind of the high level part of europe. How do you like the one we had gone through all the logical decisions? We have to offer now we're felix into them and I, make sure when making the right financial decision and not to making a decision based on our emotions, because, though the most environment unstable when it comes to strangle the charter. So let me ask you questions first, rachel now we're talkin off, air has inch company circled up and said? Hey yours, I'm gonna, take care of your housing over the next few months. Here they have given us. A state then fell regardless, where we rent that will cover it up, oh. I can continue with my my regular income, chiefly the mortgage and all those items, mutual that will not affect that, an it's enough that we can get through on that.
That's right! Isn't that words are a lot of you and the two options. You several take us any five thousand dollars by a fifth wheeled to be around your work making sure that that stays secure, that area or creed security around that and then go move in with your parents, or in laws Levin their basement. So my question: is the stipend at the rents cover view cautious when, in cotton apart, or a condo for cause, you're you're how you'll be moving back in your home christmas we three c of a year and a half of this journey. So what cost what's the thought process of not just going in renting something else with that then from the insurance company, then state than with runs up here is not an ok. Ok, so you ve pregnant unit ice now, oughta for rental. Here, yeah I've been it's it's pretty expensive and to find a place, but allow tat
while that increases the doha off suit. My our best financial option would be to rent from my parents went what the cheaper within this type and range gap, I wish you had a great relationship with them. We shall measure, is traps company choose I will change your insurance company because most provisions, not all but most of them, are I'm making you hole in the process, I have dollar mounts attached to them like this is what this is going to provide for you, but often thereabout, making you whole ok, and in the gap, and so it may be pushed here's. What I want you to do any time, there's a tragedy or something scary in our lives, and we back ourselves into a corner and say it's either this or this we give her. Two options. Rarely is that the case and rarely do we make choices when it's an either or situation? Ok, ok and so I would love to see all get with somebody that is spread out your because eve boxes into we take out seventy.
Five thousand dollars on a depreciating asset or we live with my lab. We would, we would take you to ourselves from the business that of waiting till the end of the year and use that money to approach a fat, and then, after were done with that, the plan would be to sell it back to the business, because we do right jobs, and we could do better bed, being able to help our guys or yeah here that there is a god. I'd been shaped, dimension, yeah and there's a partisan it out. If you search to fill a massacres, are taking my personal returned to the business return, trying band they best to get get this plea and said: there's a word honestly and what john said earlier in the segment of just resting. In grieving. What was lost and just to do the simplest thing between here and a year and a half what is the same this path and so weathered, though and if you guys, I agree, John go: go: pressed the insurance company to say, hey here's market rate on rents,
Here's what's going on and talk to them about that, but if it gets down to do, I don't personally think it's a terrible idea for tomorrow with your parents goes again it's a year and a half if we're talkin five years or something this probably a different conversation, but because of that, I'm frame its non aligned, There's a safety net there, its familiar and and you guys are going to have a lot of decisions and a lot of work ahead of you. When you're rebuilding the home, I mean there's, there's going to be you're going to be having are having a part time time. Basically, during this project project, it's it's be a lot, and so I think, being at a minimum minimize as much stress and make things as easy as easy as possible in the next year and a half feels feels right So I lean towards and yet moving with your parents again, you have a timeframe: it's a year and a half figuring out the safety part of it yeah and then yeah and then yes, circling back and figuring out the safety part of your business, the city and I'm gonna speak we'd everybody listener. Now one of the great challenges we ve all face is this idea of when it gets back to normal.
and it can be in my life. It was when my when my wife got pregnant for the first time and I was like well whenever the babies born and then we get back to an end, was born. I realized a month or two in like it's probably two years till we clinical get back to end. I never stop to realise there is no going backwards ripe. So important to note in this situation, since you guys had fifty three. thousand dollars left in baby step, two with a plan to pay that off this year. That will not happen world exploded in them. You tried to duct tape and move and shall fall and by a fifth wheel at the more you, do stuff so that you can get back to the way things were. likely or to make a decision that you can just compounds, are issues and so really thee d. My favorite analogy is from the great esther proud says you can't take off,
of the dust and glass in steel from the twin towers, and sweep draw up and rebuild those towers? You have to excavate all of it clean it all out, get architects, git engineers get different professionals to come in and build something new argue with stronger and are to be more beautiful. But Gotta do something move in this way and so you'll need to stop and say: where are we for this year which reasonable for here and then let's make that plant happen, and they were going to do this on a year by your basis, gas, so good cindy and were so sorry sartorial s thanks for the call of nexus jake. up in Scranton, hey Jacob, welcomed the show, you guys so much for taking my call absolutely? How can we help my wife and I are where we have a question about college In the name of minded family, we actually have two children from my relation with my late wife and I who are fourteen eleven and we have two children together, one who is three and one who is unfortunately in Heaven.
and one on the way in september, so we got pretty white age range We're trying to figure out how to invest. Or how to say rather bird for their college funds and in cash for everything we ve got the anthony on your book I just trying to figure out Do we start Do we save there a number to get too or just keep on throwing money? What do we do gets a great question? comes the kid savings for college, there's really to grow options and he and educational educational savings account a five twenty nine plan and depending on your income, and how much you guys want to contribute that you may not qualify for the usa. So most people do a five. Twenty nine but I would also say would sit down with a smart mister. Because there are major walk through very specific options, for you guys and run numbers, because here's the deal the fourteen year old is going have less than the one that's
born in september. Right, I mean that's just that's a facts, and so the biggest when you're looking at college and what you're saving forest is. Ok, bye the time that the sporting world eighteen what's real sickly, what are we gonna have to save, and look at that number. That's going to really determine whether that fourteen year old state, states goes to a community. College applies for scholarships and grants, but for this fort, want to go to school. Debt. Free is the number one priority, and so part of that is going to come from you guys since you're on baby step five and but there there could be a realistic a situation that that your bag, that europe you know they team and if I go well, we didn't have as much money saved as we as We are planning or what we thought and so schooled choice. Jacob is going to be. The biggest is going to be the biggest factor in this conversation. It is a brilliantly go ahead or go ahead or I was gonna say there's been a lot, a loss in your family and sometimes
back end of that grief. A sense of guilt I want to make up for I want to get. I want to make sure that all this has taken care over all there. Is feeling is real. That sentiment, Israel that desires real in its good, is right and there's a mathematical reality, so it Maybe that you look at the numbers and what you're gonna be able to do over the next four years, and you have to sit down and tell your fourteen year old
it'll be able to cobble together ten grand and so we're going to have to start working now on scholarships jobs grants all of it together, so that in four years you've got enough, because this is the best we're going to be able to be able to save it tape, it's different for each kit, absolute reality as well, thanks Jacob for the call.
